About Us

Our mission: to help you grow long lasting and well-integrated systems that evolve with your organisation, and engage your people ...

Sustainability

Sustainability for us means that we always account for the Triple Bottom Line in everything we do:

  • economic viability
  • social impact
  • environmental impact

Sustainable Software will favour projects that have clear social and environmental benefits, and may support particularly worthwhile projects with lower contract rates. Sustainable Software reserves the right to refuse to participate in projects that are socially or environmentally damaging.

Ethos

Sustainable Software is in the business of creating sustainable assets for businesses and organisations. We prefer to develop:

  • systems that are long lasting, flexible and reusable
  • clear documentation that anyone can read and use
  • user interfaces that are easy to use and understand
  • effective training by qualified instructors
  • systems that can easily be maintained by their owners with only basic computer skills

Part of our ethos is that we believe that technology and information that may by socially or environmentally beneficial should not be withheld from the public simply to make a profit. Thus we favour the development of Free, Open Source Software (FOSS), and oppose any attempt to enforce software patents.

The business

The managing director of Sustainable Software, Dr Sam Stainsby, has at times been a researcher in theoretical physics, a specialist in network management and multimedia R&D, a software engineer, a team leader and principal engineer in the area of security software, and a university lecturer teaching software development.
